I visited Scott for a few hours today in Englewood Colorado, at the Swedish Medical Hospital. I was shocked and deeply saddened by what he has been through, and gleaned a more complete story from chatting with him. He has apparently been in several hospitals since the accident, which happened in August 2016. The basics are that he tripped over something on his deck, fell over the railing and onto uneven lava rock ten feet below. He laid there for over three days before someone found him, slipping in and out of consciousness. Initially he was paralyzed but the doctors have been gradually working on his many problems, and he's slowly feeling more and more of his limbs. He's still flat on his back in a hospital bed, unable to move much at all or to eat on his own. There are additional surgeries coming soon followed by months of rehab and wheelchair time. Scott has really been through the proverbial ringer, and insurance sounds like it's about to run out. I would urge anyone who knows Scott well to make a point to visit, or at least send him a postcard. He is in room 9270. If you need more details feel free to email me directly. Karl |
