You could make a fuel pump relay with a "wired-OR" diode connection to a pushbutton in the cockpit and alternator D+, so it would stay activated so long as the alternator was charging. That would also solve the problem of neglecting to stop and check what's wrong when your belt breaks and trashes the cooling.
