Im not at home with my manuals but looking at images on line, it seems the AEB and AWP oil pans have a different bolt pattern; its my understanding that the diesel vanagon oil pan bolts up to the AEB 1.8t . I know a fellow on thesamba did a 50 degree AEB swap using some diesel parts.

Wouldnt the diesel clutch housing would put the starter in the way of the syncro fuel tank? Or is this part of your daunted-ness?
