I'm most interested in the LED inserts available to drop in to our rectangular lamps including the H3 for the driving lights. yes, i have rectangular lamps and would love to just insert something to give me a better light than the standard.  Not concerned with the brightest and don't wish to switch to the round or spend a lot of time or money. Alistair, would love to know what you would recommend to a non-mechanical owner who hardly drives at night :-)?pete 90 Westy

you have experimented with a lot of than as you say, please list the models, the tests, the results. If you have pictures of beam patterns etc, as I did with the H4 led units shown on my blog, please post.

Thanks to the Jeep and motorcycle crowd there are many round headlight assemblies to choose from. There are even some that have the original headlight look to them. There also LED inserts available to drop in to our rectangular lamps including the H3 for the driving lights. I have experimented with a lot of them over the past 6 months. I now have two choices for each that work very well.  > Most are in the 5000K to 6000K color temperature. At first id didn't like the color but I realized how much that color reflects off objects. Street and highway signs actually glow yet the hot spot does not glare cars in front or oncoming with the low beams. > A real advantage is the reduced power draw. They do still seem a bit affected by voltage drops. They do have the potential for electrical noise and most of the inserts for 9004 have fans. For the H3 fan units will not fit on the driver's side so you need the ones with ribbons. For most, the fit-seal to the housing is poor so some sealant is needed. Avoid the Can-Bus units the Vanagon don’t need. > > Dennis > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of kenneth wilford (Van-Again) > Sent: Saturday, June 10, 2017 4:48 PM > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: Re: Don't yell at me but I tried led H4 > > I actually found what I think is a great solution for the 7" rounds.  You can see them at the link here and there are some videos of my experience with them: > > https://www.vanagain.com/shop/7-inch-round-led-vanagon-headlight-set/ > >> On Sat, Jun 10, 2017 at 4:06 PM, David Beierl <dbeierl@attglobal.net> wrote: >> >> That's good to know.  In that case, I suspect too much blue component. >> White LEDs are really blue LEDs with a yellow phosphor on top. >> >> Yrs, >> d >> >>> On Sat, Jun 10, 2017 at 12:27 PM, Alistair Bell <albell@shaw.ca> wrote: >>> >>> Nope, and I have the pics to prove that.
