This isn't an off-schedule Phun Phriday post... but it's a mystery and not a problem. I removed Cunegonde's "living room" carpet. It appeared to be the original '83.5 dark brown, with stock Westy doorsill sheet metal edge strip, and the carpet extending slightly under the cabinetry. Needless to say it was ratty - Cunegonde has had as rough a life as her namesake. However... Has anyone else found a *pink and yellow flowers on a white background* vinyl-covered plywood OEM Westy subfloor? Mine is either original or an expert (and old) replacement. The plywood is the same baltic ply as the cabinets. The texture of the cutesy flower print is the same as the "grasscloth" on the interior panels and ceilings. The jump seat/center bench track hole is exactly centered over the welded attachment point, and screws holding down the ply are identical to other interior trim screws. Was this some sort of leftover supply from another Westfalia werks project? It looks like something for a baby's bedroom! I'm about to cover it with wood or bamboo (or a one-piece removable rubber mat), but this subfloor was really bizarre. As if my vanagon had a microbus secret identity. |
