Just upgrade to a new fridge, Wally World sells a top loader (keeps your cool air in when you open it) for about ~500. I have owned a 81 Westy and a EVC, both had nice side opening fridges, but shitty fridges to operate (overall issue). I upgraded to a new top loading 12v only fridge and never looked back.

Take off the vent cover and apply a choked-down vacuum cleaner to the
center opening. Air volume is more important than pressure in sucking
stuff out of the flue system. Easy to do, you only have to make a
cardboard adapter for the hose.
