FWIW, my gmail is set to Basic HTML view. The page loads faster but better yet, all quoted material is shown; there's no need to find the somewhat obscure icon that expands the quoted text while in Standard View mode. On my desktop Macintosh, OSX Safari browser: command + R to refresh the gmail web page, position mouse cursor over 'view in basic html' link at bottom RH of page, refresh page again, click on the basic html link.
