On my '84 that tube at the bottom in the cab? Mine was packed with grit & what not. As I recall I used a stiff wire to clean it out.

I realize that others sometimes have that experience, too, but my love of mechanical work is perhaps less than some others. And I don't want to risk damaging an irreplaceable part.

I do think it is probably extremely dirty. I don't believe it has ever been serviced.
