Subject: Re: Minor fridge mods addendum

I can't read steve meassick's messages because I only read from the archives so I don't know what was said about using the heat gun. I've not found a heat gun to be be necessary. The interior fins simply snap on the cooling pipe. The fins can be twisted to break them loose and then pulled off starting from the right end. The right end goes of the cooling pipe goes through the back wall of the box and is supported better than the left. It doesn't take a lot of force to remove the fins.

The modification I made was to remove the open section of fins and replaced them with a section of cast aluminum cooling fins from an old, old computer. This was similar to the original cooling unit but added more net surface area for heat transfer. That modification, along with a small fan and some thermal paste from Radio Shack (remember them?), a couple of additional fans in the rear to remove heat and some insulating of the chimney unit resulted in a refrigerator that actually works pretty good in cool weather but still not so well in the Summer.
