Tie wraps have saved my butt many times. Including an aspect related to a field repair water pump replacement. That strap is still holding. Would suggest that if the OP doesn't already have one, a flush cutter: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Klein-Tools-5-in-Light-Weight-Flush-Cutter-D2755/100647983 is very useful. A fellow Vanagon owner, who does marine wiring work, had a pet peeve about sharp ends left on tie wraps; they're sharp and do cut flesh. He pointed out that tool to me. Neil.
