I am alwats leary of putting on undetcoating as it can get pinholes cracks etc and trap moisture. I have always used a number of different products dependimg on the location basically oil and wax based products . For interior panels where i really want to penetrate cracks etc. I use Fluid Film. For locations where i want something that dries a little harder such as in the beams on the underside of the van i use Transstar 4423. For the exposed areas on the underside i use Waxoyl. All of this stuff can be purchased in spray cans or bulk although Waxoyl needs a special kind of sprayer if bought in bulk. I touch up once a year.

Hi list,

What modern products would folks recommend I use to refresh the undercoating on my Vanagon? It was undercoated originally and in most places has held up. Still there are some places where I can feel it is thin.

I suspect there are both spray and paintable options. I also expect some products last and others don’t.

Can folks send me product recommendations and application tips.

In most cases I’ll probably use some sighted help but I’ll need to do the prep and in out of sight areas I may paint some on myself. All spraying is left to sighted helpers.

Tips appreciated.

Eric Caron
