Do you mean like Subie 2.2 conversions (and Bostig and so on)?  That's what I now have in my '85 Vanagon; I have no idea of what the Subaru alternator in that motor puts out, guess I could look it up somehow.  I just assumed it was the same or a little more than the original 1.9 L wasserboxer motor alternator.

Granted that isn't usually what the battery is seeing - unless deeply discharged.
