how many miles on your new 2.3 engine? may be still under breaking-in period..

new engine runs hot and burn oil, even more so if the oil level is high.

and may be you have a defective/worn breather tower. The worn breather tower is OK with the old engine which delivers low oil pressure.. the new engine delivers much higher oil pressure and the worn breather tower can't not handle.
