I was trying to put the spring in from the bottom because the shock is still bolted in at the top. Dan N said I need to take out the shock and put the spring in from the top. I'll remove the shock and try that tomorrow.

I do have a Bentley but the procedure on page 40.4 was not clear to me.

Fortunately I have the newer style strut bar threaded at the end to bolt directly into the lower control arm.
