Shorter version:

I think a little bit of the lube I applied to the driver side clutch housing cross bushings crept in. The clutch pedal feels smoother, the noise seems less loud. I think the issue is at the cross shaft bushing(s).

So I removed the 11 mm head bolt that holds the middle bushing at cross arm in place, dripped in a mix of grease and chain lube, sprayed chain lube to outside end of driver side plastic bushing at the clutch cross shaft. With lube applied to outside end of bushing, I then noticed that if I push up on the clutch operation lever, a minor gap shows up between cross shaft and bushing. My thought is that a thin needle on a grease gun, or even a hypodermic needle might be able to squeeze some grease or oil in between that bushing and cross shaft.

Not a long term solution but I think I have figured out what's causing the noise. I can nurse this along for a while.
