Certainly the Gemo I have in there was very tight, but whether that is a good thing - preventing lateral flexing and chatter - or whether it causes binding and torsional stresses that cause chatter...I dunno. I'm not really surprised that a part that wholesales for ~ $10-15, in relatively small production runs, would have QC issues with lots here and there. Not like we don't see that with many other aftermarket only van parts (window regulators anyone?).
I'm not diss'ing Van-Cafe either, but I got this one from them, and I don't know if every one they have is from the same lot or not. So it's a crapshoot. Just hoping someone had had good, recent, luck with a particular brand/supplier. Ah well, thanks anyway!

I should have known that you be
on top of things Keith. It's interesting that there are
bum cables for sale. Do you get the impression that the
cable liner is tight to the cable or maybe even scarred or
torn somewhere in the run? Or even a manufacturing defect,
little kink made in the cable before it's inserted in
housing. That would be a big oversight at the factory.
Getting lube down a cable
housing is a pain if you can't use one of those cable
lubing attachments. It's tempting to think that more
lube is the answer.
Anyway,
I'm out of suggestions :-)

Yes, new dustcap with the cable install. I pulled the cap
yesterday and ran the cable with a drill, and still have the
bounce. I lubed the cable well with 3-in-1 oil on install
(it was quite difficult to turn by hand). I adjusted the
cable to minimize it, but still there. I heard from FAS
where my conversion was done that they have had a lot of
cable issues with Gemo over the last year, and had to
replace a bunch. Apparently that's been resolved, but I
don't want to dump another $50, delivered, only to get
another old-stock cable with the same issues.
