It’s a cult, but a fun one. It’s as much about where you can go as it is how crazy you can get. Search for “Syncrofest” on YouTube for some real insanity, including tip overs. I’m sure BenT will agree with me on this!

For me, all the expense and hassle of a Syncro seems to be just too much, in my humble opinion. Man...there are SO many great places and roads to explore all across the North American Continent where 2WD is just fine. I know, been doing this stuff in my Vanagon for 28 years, and 14 years before that in a 1970 aircooled bus! Syncros are cool, but if the road gets tough, just camp right there before it gets tough....that's the beauty of a "regular" Vanagon.
Regular roads, regular dirt roads even, can keep a Vanagon camper happy for centuries. No need for all the complications of a 4WD Vanagon.
Not to mention the price. And the upkeep. And the fact that dwindling supply of parts and stuff will only get worse when you got a Syncro and want to keep it 100% functional.
Nah..keep it simple...stay on easy roads...so many awesome sights to see. You will never run out. Give your 30 year old vehicle a break. Relax and enjoy.
But I did put a 2.2 Subie in my Vanagon 2 years ago....yeah...now that's money well spent! Even fixed up A/C today. Guess it comes down to what each person thinks important for them, and that's OK.

He's a speculator. Found a deal on a low mileage Syncro and did what Go Westy would do to it and sell it. But, GW warrants the items they install, no warranty here. But it does have a Subaru engine, something you can't get from GW. Not yet anyway.

He must be a copy writer by day … it would seem the price is set at $100/word ;-)
