I redid a whole set of carat bumpers back to original colors some time
back. For small pocks and nicks, a good tube of spot filler from a BODY
SHOP not a FLAPS is very good. For larger gashes, bondo. For cracks, remove
material, fiberglass the back and bondo/fill the front. Then spray with
high-build primer and sand until you can't see any imperfections in the
glare of a work light. The SEM black you mentioned is a very good one. Try
to use real primer not a spray can though a spray can, with enough effort,
could work.
