Ya, the way I ended up doing this was to wire the "new" head unit and amp memory + and switched + wire to B+ This way, it's even more incentive to finally install a battery cut out switch on the ground side of each battery. Something I should've done a long time ago.

It's interesting, and ironic to me that the "memory" wire is a larger gauge than the wire that would normally connect to the ignition switch. Seems to me that the basic purpose of the latter smaller gauge wire is to switch on the head unit/ The "memory" wire obviously carries more current to the "guts" of the head unit. I'd always assumed that wire only served to maintain user settings.
