Congratulations on the smog pass. Funny but my 1982 westfalia (orig air-cooled) - converted to 1994 legacy 2.2 ( Kennedy plaque)

(Modesto is his name )

And is deemed a gross polluter, has to be gold star smogged annually. And I use it as my east coast ride six months a year, so I drive it every year from Quebec to Los Angrles and back. We use the heck out of it camping.

I almost traded it in 2015 for a 1969 dodge A-108 camper van with a westy style pop top. Saw that on Craigslist in Victorville CA. I always liked the American cab forward vans. That was only $5500 and had rebuilt 302 v8. Dope van.

the dodge would have got me out from under smog. The van could be parked in a field in Russia, and the dmv will keep sending you tags!

Anyway, I think the rear engine configuration won my loyalty. If it's front engine, it ain't a real bus.

That's why I still have Modesto. The money and energy I invested since 2009 has really paid off. I would drive it to Argentina with confidence.
