Well, it will be loud with no muffler! That's a lot for a tintop, even a nice one. But, nice ones are rare, most that I've seen are pretty beat up because their owner's often don't have the pride of ownership Westy owners typically do.

Right now, it appears the only way I am going to get to drive a Vanagon again is to buy one. I saw the following ad on TheSamba for 1991 Vanagon Carat 5 Speed manual. URL is https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2025436 . Does anyone know anything about this particular van? How common are 1991 Vanagons that are not Westies?.
