I have done this. AFAIK, still works fine. I think it was Chris Corkin
aka "Tencentlife" on the samba Vanagon forum that posted about that
fix.

@ the OP: when you say "flickering oil light", do you mean that the
red oil light is flashing at a regular rate?

On the later model year Vanagon with the Dynamic Oil Pressure system,
corrosion in the brown wire from the high pressure oil pressure switch
and/or corrosion at contacts in the white connector can cause the
circuit to open which would cause the buzzer to come on when it
shouldn't. BTDT. Theoretically, if the brown wire for the low pressure
switch has come loose, or the cover has melted off, it could contact
the engine (ground) which would complete that circuit causing the oil
light to flash steadily on/off. Oil pressure switches do wear out too.

This is not to say that you don't have low oil pressure.

The Bentley diagrams show the position of each oil switch, engine off.
But if memory serves, the low pressure switch should be open when
engine is running. Yes. Here's a good article on the oil pressure
