I have seen a few photos of the GW brake kit.
I think those are identical to a German dealer, who also seems to have
issues getting new sets (not confirmed, so rumors).
I personally think the issue is the "caliper holder" (as that the word
in english?), as it is specially moulded for the VanagonĀ“s M16 bolts.
The Caliper itself is the Audi A100/A6/A4/Awhatever 57mm cylinder
caliper, found in thousands of Audis.
My big brake has been based on that since 2002, too. But except GW and
that one German vendor, they always sell with an adapter fitting the
vanagon front axle.

So if you are only looking for pads: The Audi way is the way to go. Pads
for 288mm brakes
Different part numbers usually are caused by different connector styles
for the brake pad wear warning light.
