4.  Our '87 arrived at our place with weak struts and a PO-supplied custom broomstick with rubber crutch tips.  I soon replaced them with two of the "strong" struts from Bus Depot, the stronger of the two models offered by BD at the time.  They're still holding up, so to speak, a decade later and will support the hatch lined with B-Quiet sound deadener and with a bike rack on the hatch, but not with a bike on the rack.  Other vendors might offer the same struts. Incidentally, BD seems to have lower prices but they always seemed to take forever to ship, for some reason. I have not ordered parts online from any vendor for a while (yes, the van is working) so things might have changed on that front. Stephen
