I have seen a few photos of the GW brake kit. I think those are identical to a German dealer, who also seems to have issues getting new sets (not confirmed, so rumors).

I personally think the issue is the "caliper holder" (as that the word in english?), as it is specially moulded for the VanagonĀ“s M16 bolts.

The Caliper itself is the Audi A100/A6/A4/Awhatever 57mm cylinder caliper, found in thousands of Audis. My big brake has been based on that since 2002, too. But except GW and that one German vendor, they always sell with an adapter fitting the vanagon front axle.

Similar to the two adapters in the middle here: http://www.v6bus.de/IMG_2923.jpg

So if you are only looking for pads: The Audi way is the way to go. Pads for 288mm brakes Different part numbers usually are caused by different connector styles for the brake pad wear warning light.

About 2 years ago I did standardize on the GW kit for a number of reasons. Fit, performance, and no comebacks. Until now. Anyway, Ken has helped many times over the years when I needed rare stuff and he is a pleasure to work with . > > Dennis > > > From: kenneth wilford [mailto:kenwilfy@gmail.com] > Sent: Saturday, August 5, 2017 11:25 AM > To: Dennis Haynes <d23haynes57@hotmail.com> > Cc: Vanagon List <vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com> > Subject: Re: GW bigger brakes availability > > We have a supplier for our big brake kit. I would have to call them on Monday to see if they have stock. All of the wear items ( rotors and pads) are available from your local parts store and the calipers are Audi so you could source them later on if you had to. > > We have been selling big brake kits for about 15 years. No I can't just sell the hubs. Yes my business makes money (shocked expression). However I try to take some of that and give back to you folks as much as possible. > See www.vanagon.com<http://www.vanagon.com> > Ken Wilford at vanagain.com<http://vanagain.com> > > On Aug 5, 2017 11:13 AM, "Dennis Haynes" <d23haynes57@hotmail.com<mailto:d23haynes57@hotmail.com>> wrote: > The GoWesty pads are a standard Pad.
