Subject: Radiator Fan B+ Wire Routing
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8"

Hi all.

VW (or Westfalia?) routed a positive wire from fuse panel, under the carpet to the kitchen, there's mention in the archives of doing same for other B+ wires, so it seems this would be ok but.....

For a 2 speed non AC radiator fan on a formerly air cooled Vanagon, if the radiator fan B+ wire were routed under the front carpet, is there a risk that heat from the wire would ignite surrounding materials?

I know the fan doesn't stay on long. If I had a proper power source I'd run the fan and see if the wire gets hot.

Alternatively, if I route the headlight B+ wire (uses headlight upgrade relays) in the same manner then connect the radiator fan circuit to fuse S7. ( I now see why VW left that fuse vacant on the air cooled Vanagons)

I'm improving work I'd done to my van while doing the engine swap back in 2008/9. The rad fan circuit worked fine but I'm improving the way I covered that rad fan wire so am now wonder if running the rad fan wire over the fuel tank is not ideal.

Thanks

Neil.
