Thanks Stacy. If I'm understanding you correctly, this is what I'd originally done; route wire from starter battery, under vehicle, behind front grills then in at grommet near the headlight. At fuse panel I installed a separate fuse and the relay for the higher fan speed.

Maybe I'm reading the wiring diagram incorrectly but for a 1985 (this is what I based my rad fan wiring on), B+ to rad fan fuse S7 comes from the supply side of the 30 buss.

I would route the wire at the "edge" of the carpet like the kitchen supply wire is done but I see your point; physical damage is a more likely concern.
