Gates hose is not good. It is never the correct size either. So the multi
fuel hose that some folks on thesamba harp about is a size too big and will
possibly leak for that reason.
We have sold German hose in our kits from the beginning. It will stand up
the modern fuels no problem. I have installed the kits and then 10 years
later, had a chance to remove the kits and look them over and they are
still in fine shape. The hose is Continental hose. There is also Flennor
out there which is multi fuel and has a plastic lining. It is the correct
size too. However it is very difficult to install and I wonder if it will
hold properly because of the plastic lining not really having the same
properties as rubber.
Now for the gas tank kits we have transitioned away from Continental
braided hose (which was factory) to Flennor multi fuel hose. It seems to
install nicely and it isn't under the pressure of the high pressure hose.
It should hold up much better than the Continental hose because that was
failing due to cracking every four or five years due to the Ethanol gas
fumes. The actually ethanol gas in liquid form, seems to play nice with
the rubber. That is why you can have your rubber fuel lines in the engine
bay and it isn't an issue. But when you have the fumes from the Ethanol
gas, it will eat away at the rubber fuel lines so we have moved to the
plastic lined, Flennor (German) multi fuel hose for that application.
This is all after much research, using the products in the real world for
years and years. We were the first company to come up with the fuel line
kits back in the day. I think we still offer the best version because I am
always taking feed back and I update the kits as needed. There is a reason
for every part in the kit that we supply. My end result is something that
is going to last and give you folks safe miles down the road.
