Dan, Dave, and Stuart,

I do like the idea of a large clear filter. I resisted one mostly because of convenience. The VW filter has dissimilar sized nipples so there is no doubt about the direction of fuel flow. I think I can get that right, but I still need an adapter to match hose sizes. That, and the feeling that it is best to stay with an OEM type filter has stopped me from making the change.

Small amounts of water is an issue for the rust, but I doubt that there is enough water to block the filter. There is not a lot of moisture in Phoenix. I haven't driven the car in rain for months, and all of the hoses, grommets, and expansion tanks are fine. But the suggestion of a large see-thru filter would resolve any questions about water as well as give an indication of just how much the tank is rusting.

Thanks, Mike
