Subject: Trouble on the road: starter motor and charging relay have common
              problem?

We are currently driving back to Pittsburgh from Nashville (eclipse!).

Our starter gave out on us twice. First time we roll started down a hill and after that it worked again for a day but now it seems to have given up completely. A nice guy with a tow truck helped us with a pull start so we are on the road for now.

I have noticed something strange however: our stancore relay doesn't seem to be engaged while driving. (I can test this by shutting the car off and on while at speed.) However, I have noticed that if I try to engage the started motor that does engage the relay (only while the key is in the starting position). This seems to me to indicate that there may be some electrical weirdness going on as opposed to a failing starter.

Ignition switch? Wire connection?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!
