is it really not turning on the pump? you can't hear the pump run when you turn it?

I have long thought about putting a little foot switching front of the sink so that I could use that to turn on the water in little bursts that would really economize it and leave both hands free for washing. You could do that or have a separate switch from the faucet? not really ideal.
