I'm puzzled by what starter I have ( on my workbench) just removed from my
84 with an inljne (ABA hybrid gas) VW motor mated to tbe van with factory
deisel parts, 5 sp bellhousing etc.
   I ordered what was said to be a diesel starter, but it is wrong...the
bolts aren't spaced right, and there's no extension over tbe gear like on
tbe one I just removed.   Bosch # ln the lne that fits is 0 001 317 011
012.  and below that is.  ...v.
   068 911 028 O.   or maybe "D"

   Is there a reference for Bosch #s anywhere, or can anyone point out the
least expensive or "best" place to get the right starter?
  Now I get to do again ....but other than the clutch slave and the intake
ducting, it was pretty easy.
