I hate to admit to doing this but I'll use myself as the example.

The hall connector on my Jetta ABA swap is located at forward end of engine. My concern was road water getting splashed up onto that connector. So, in a well intended but vane effort to help keep moisture out, I applied some grease to the exterior of those connectors. The contacts in the male connector at distributor ended up corroding; I have yet to see any evidence of corrosion at other connector contacts. My theory is that I ended up mostly sealed off the connectors from moisture but moisture obviously got in and remained longer than it might've if those parts weren't partially sealed.

I'm sure I wouldn't be the first well intended Vanagon owner to try something like this.

Though its in a different location, the WBX and Jetta ABA engine share a very similar distributor hall connector design; it appears to me that the male connector on the distributor could allow water to pool.
