Subject: Sold our van after 21 years of incredible experiences

After 21 years, it is time to say goodbye to an incredible group of people,
many of whom I now call friends. Without your help, advice, guidance, and
support there is no way my wife and I could have enjoyed our Vanagon more
nor gone to so many incredible places. While I was not a weekly poster to
the list, I read the comments daily, posted when I thought appropriate, and
sent numerous private emails. You taught me so much that I have helped
stranded owners along the road, at campgrounds, and in my area. My first
post to the list in Jan 1996 was about tires and I am happy to say my last
post was not about oil. I was a member of the list when Ron S. decided to
start his own business selling parts and was a member of the original group
who purchased and imported the Propex heaters.
From Virginia, we took memorable trips trips to BC on four occasions,
Alaska twice, Quebec, Baja, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia several times, all
along the US and Canadian Rockies, and all around the US. And we did it
without once being towed or stranded. Why? Because of all the advice on
preventive maintenance, what to watch out for, which replacement parts to
purchase and where.
While our van was in excellent shape cosmetically and mechanically and I
would have taken it anywhere, for a variety of reasons we decided to sell
it to someone who will take care of it, enjoy it like we have, and will be
a valued member of this list. On my advice the new owner (Ryan) has joined
this list and is already benefiting from reading the questions and advice
posted. One day soon, I feel certain he will introduce himself to the list.
Now, I can be one of those people who can go up to a Vanagon owner in
parking lots, gas stations, campgrounds, etc. and tell them all about my
experience with a Vanagon I once owned. Big Grin! But honestly, I never
tired of talking to people about their experiences with these really
wonderful vehicles and my wife and I will always say some of our most
memorable experiences in life were the people we met and trips and sights
we experienced in our Vanagon.
I hope to see you on the road somewhere since I know that I will still stop
and talk to Vanagon owners to see if I can put a name from the list with a
face.
All the best and happy travels,
Harold
