From what I've read, the Auxilliary Air Regulator is a pain to reinstall, so I'd like to get a better idea of how it could be causing the problem before I go further. My understanding is that the AAR "fools" the air flow meter into thinking that the throttle is open further than it is by allowing more air flow to the meter. This increases the rpm for cold idle.

My 1.9 liter water cooled idles at about 750 rpm at startup, but stumbles and dies about a 1/4 mile from the house. At the next stop about a mile further, it's warmed up enough to idle properly. It's hard to understand how the AAR could cause this problem but when I pinch it off at startup the idle doesn't change. Thus the initial question as to what temperature it is open. It might open at freezing temperatures but is it open at 80 degrees? If not, that would explain the failure of the test.
