Subject: New temp blinky light and high rev sitch
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8"

Hi all,

I have an '87 Westy, auto, no A/C, with about 180K on it, but pretty new engine (about 4K miles). I went to a 4-day festival this past weekend. When I was ready to leave, my temperature blinky light started blinking after all the normal startup lights went out. I turned the van off and checked the coolant reservoir, the one behind the license plate. It was up to the full level. While I was there, I went ahead and checked the oil level; it was fine. I started it back up and the blinky light went away. The van ran fine the whole way home (about an hour's trip). However, when I got home and put the shifter in Park, the idle jumped up to 1900-2000 RPMs and stayed there till I turned the engine off.

Since then (Sunday), when I start up the van first thing in the morning, the light comes on (blinking) and stays on till I restart, which is usually after the van has warmed up. The idle continues to jump up to around 2K RPMs when I park.

I'm not sure what possible connection there can be between these two things or why it would appear suddenly after being parked for 4 days. Any thoughts on where to start troubleshooting?

Thanks, Marc Perdue
