Maybe I've lost a detail or so on what the OP wants to do, but though Neil's measurements are for a vw inline 4 (and agree with my measurements for diesel removal.installs) I thought a waterboxer was sitting in the engine bay right now, and the body will have to be raised to full water boxer height before removal is possible.
