Subject:      Measuring crankshaft thrust

Does anyone have a good write up or video on measuring crankshaft thrust? I need to assess this potential wear to decide whether to replace the leaking rear main and flywheel seals. Have the Boston Bob video on the seal replacement and the factory manual. Is there any way to get this measurement without removing the engine or tranny? The engine was rebuilt approximately 166K ago with a used crank. It still has no oil consumption and good power. Symptom of the problem was oil getting on the clutch disc which will also need to be replaced. Thanks fellow vanagonauts.
