I have the same issue (and timingly enough just replaced my door panel). A few things that seemed to have helped me. 1) Drill a hole where the screw is so you can access it without taking the panel off. 2) Make sure you have an escutcheon or rubber washer on the outside to keep water out and slack against the body of the door. Mine had rotten out and so not pulling the door handle completely tight against the body. I really think that was creating an issue of not holding the screw. 3) Use Lock-Tight on the screw if needs be, probably just the medium strength?

Good luck, hope you get it tightend up, those handles aren't cheap!
