Install it during your next oil change and confirm the marks. You may need
to recalibrate it, at least visually, since it is designed for their pan.

It will work with any pan since it measures the oil level at the top of the
pan, but I have their 5 qt. cast pan.

Stuart
Now that you have the Subaru engine have you solved the problem of checking
the oil with out needing to remove every thing in the rear and opening the
engine bay hatch
I have been driving our 87 westy with the 93 Subaru engineer years now and
much appreciate the power BUT I have never solved the checking engine oil
problem
Would like to be able to do it from the same behind the license plate as the
original
Almost back on the road still finishing up installing the rattle trap sound
deadening have the new solar panel arrangement al the new rubber for
windows
new cloth up stairs replaced the bumpers the body shop work and painting
etc etc
Now will clean it all up inside and start putting all our camping gear back
in it

After over 300,000 miles on two Vanagons and four WBX engines I've now
installed a '93 Subaru 2.2 in my '85 Westy, and it looks like it's been
there since the van came out of the factory. It's a simpler and cleaner
install than the WBX with much simpler cooling plumbing and a better
designed engine control system. The power is amazing, especially compared to
the tired 1.9 it replaced. I can climb hills and merge onto the freeway
safely now, even if the on-ramp is up hill. I'm installing the GoWesty
cruise control to keep from accidentally speeding on the highway. ;-)
