This reminds me of a story my local VW mechanic (John) told me of when he worked for the VW dealer back in the 80/90s. Some folks in a Westy ran into some trouble while passing through on vacation. They made their way to the dealer, where the service manager tells John to have a look at it. John hops into the van and proceeds into the service bays. SMASH!!! These folks had bikes mounted on TOP of their Westy! I wonder how they didn't run into this problem before then, but this is Vermont and we have very few underpasses. Then again there are plenty of low hanging branches. John didn't tell me how the dealer handled the restitution. PS John claims he can change WBX heads in the van in 90 minutes. I guess he had a lot of practice. PPS John also told me I should give my engine bay a cleaning. Seats and floors get covered. I will often even go inside and change before getting inside. One thing I hate is a cluttered van where I have move a lot of stuff to even get to the engine compartment. Yes, sometimes I vehicles that are traveling where there is not a choice. But there are customers that use their vans as storage sheds or hang so much accessory crap that servicing becomes difficult. Stuff on the roof means I can’t use the garage or lift. > > When you go to the doctor or dentist you tend to shower or brush your teeth or whatever.
