David, with all due respect, I think what Dennis is saying about performance improvement with larger rims and tires is as much about safety as it is about speed, cornering,etc.

I know from following this list for years that you are an advocate for maintaining stock equipment......but I truly believe that when all is said and done the vanagon may go down in history as the most “up-engineered” vehicle by aftermarket ingenuity ever to exist.

Of course it’s your choice, but get a big brake kit, larger rims and tires and I guarantee you will tool around back roads at 55 or in the city you live in and feel much safer and confident in your rig. I’ve converted two vans from stock with those changes. Worth every penny.
