I was looking this list over last night as a customer sent me a link.

The problem is that unless go there with a trailer and transport it yourself and also you can do all of the mechanical work yourself, I can't really see any of these vans that are worth buying for any more than $1000. I know this is probably shocking since there are syncros on this list and westies.

Your transportation cost will be at least $1000 if you don't go there yourself with a trailer.

Then problem you run into is the cost of the parts and the mechanical work to get a syncro Vanagon back on the road can easily be $12k. Same with an early Westfalia. It could even be more. If you factor that into the price and then you look at what people are selling early Westies and passenger van syncros for, you would be hard pressed to break even on your money you have invested.

That is the way I see it. So you could buy an 85 Westy that is in good condition and running and driving right now for $12k, or you could buy one that needs a ton of work, and will be off of the road for a year for $1000-$5000, and slowly peck away at it until your investment is $12k (or more). It doesn't seem like a difficult choice to make to me.
