Hi Stuart,

I’m about to pull the trigger on this ARB awning as the price and install looks like a good option for me. I’ve reserved the holiday price and free shipping but have another question for you.

Can you let me know the hardware you chose from GW?

Other then the two brackets from GW and the awning is there any other hardware needed?

I’ve learned to trust your judgement on hardware and I want to get something that will work best for the van.

Also do these brackets require drilling or do they clamp on with bolts? Do they have the ability to raise the awning for more head height? I briefly touched one last year and it seemed very nice especially for the price and , convenience ,.

If it bolts on without drilling that is a big plus for me as well.

Hi Eric,

It's a heavy assembly that bolts to two beefy brackets that clamp onto the rain rail. You could attach your Ezy Awning to it with Velcro loops if you wanted. Just wrap them around the cover and the Ezy Awning frame. Wind noise? I can't hear any over all the other noise the van makes! Your freshened 1.9 can handle another 50 lbs.!

Hi Stuart,

Can you tell me how the awning attaches to the van? I’m wondering if I can leave the ARB Awning for quick stopps but still attach my bus Depot awning for my long stays.

Also, am I reading correctly that it is basically 8 foot by 8 foot?

I really like the Bus Depot awning for long stays but for shorter stops it would be great to have the other awning ready to go.

Info appreciated.

I’m also a bit concerned about noise and wind considering I’m asking a lot of my 1.9 engine.

There were some good Black Friday sales. I finally sprung for an ARB awning from Auto Anything with a 10% discount and free shipping. Also bought a Camp Chef two burner free standing stove and full size griddle from Cabela's for a 25% discount and free shipping (only an $8 handling charge). This is for our family trips where I cook for seven.

Hi folks,

Here is a silly question I posed when the list was down. Looking for some fun feedback.

I’m wondering what Black Friday purchases you may have made for your vanagon. there were several vender offerings and others at auto and camping stores.

I didn’t get too carried away. I was in a urban area so stopped in at Harbor Freight. I picked up some magnetic LED lights that double as flash lights. Also some small strong magnets for future projects. I also found a stronger shop magnet then the one I have now. A real help to a blind man when a screw is dropped on the shop floor.

On the vendor lists I was tempted but didn’t jump as my van is already getting upgrades and one of the items is even one recently installed on my van.

I have to say it was extra hard to both have this list down and my van away for care. My VW fix was not available in any of my favorite ways.

Best,

Eric Caron
