Check your transmission fluid too if you haven't already.

My '84 GL was low on fluid when I got it. It was hard to shift too. It got easier as it got warmer. Once I serviced the tranny, all was fine. Of course I went through adjusting the linkage, replacing the ball etc first.

yes the shifter stays at rest as it should... when I move if the shift, I feel more tension in then usual (unlike on my other van) and this even before the new rear linkage...
