I know I said I'd "bow out" but..... ;) You likely would've seen signs of this but since the ignition was left on overnight..... Some Vanagon owners have recently posted on the samba forum about wire damage due to the positive wire at power steering pump switch having come loose and shorted out. IIRC, that positive wire is connected to G1 positive junction in the wiring harness. Neil.
