The one thing I'd recommend is to install a thermostat. Either one of the sandwich plates that has one, or the H shaped one that goes inline. One side to the feed and one to the return. The crossbar between the two is the cooler bypass route. Until the oil warms up, it recalculates it back to the engine, then slowly opens to keep the oil at usually 180 or higher. At 180 degrees, most are full open unless the weather is too cold, then it'll moderate to try to keep the engine temp at that.

You can also find 160 degree thermostat's, but for regular street cars, that's too cool.

Dear list

I am getting rid off my oil cooler by using a oil bypass with a cooler mounted in the front.

There's an extra 16 feet hose for the oil to go to the front .

Should I use a stock oil pump or a heavy duty one ?

I came across this heavy duty one on aircooled.net bor my type of engine (vanago air-cooled 1983)

http://vwparts.aircooled.net/MELLING-30mm-Cast-Iron-Oil-Pump-Type-4-Engines-p/melling-type-4.htm

Any advise ?

Thanks
