Cunegonde came with a VDO 2” tach installed externally in the center bar of the instrument cluster, below the idiot lights. Worked just dandy and lit up when OEM gauges lit, not when they didn’t. Since the 2,1l engine upgrade, it doesn’t work and only lights when the lights are off. The wiring is still present in the engine bay. I believe one of the wires used to connect to the ignition coil, the other to ground somewhere on the lower part of the engine (possibly the oil pressure sender, not sure why). The mechanics at Always VeeDub in Portland left a note saying the engine died whenever they connected the coil wire. So it’s disconnected now. List wisdom, please? I’d like to have the tach working as the 2,1 sounds very different and definitely shifts at different speeds than the old 1,9 did. |
