Subject: Shifting 5 speeds
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

I posted this to the FB page but I know not everyone is there (and perhaps there are fewer now that FB is so much in the news).

I'm having a problem getting my shifting smooth. Here are some details:

I'm looking for advice/opinions... My AAZ turbo diesel is mated to an AAP 5 speed transmission. I'm having some problems getting the shifting sorted out and am wondering about options. I have gotten the kit from one of our vendors but 1st & reverse aren't co-operating.

First up: I'm not sure I have the 5 speed linkage, from what I can tell it's the configuration used for syncros (which is similar to the 4 speed linkage). Based on 34.10 in my Bentley to put a proper 5 speed linkage in place would require a lot of different parts including the front shift rod and the housing. Anyone have all those bits laying around?;)

Next: if I do indeed have the syncro set-up might that explain why I have to push down to get first gear in? The reverse gear lock in the housing is definitely different between them.

And finally: anyone using the Big Shot who can comment on ease of installation and the resulting shift precision? I know they have 4 spd, syncro & 5 spd versions available. -- Regards, Peter Kraiker Website: Kraiker.Photography <http://kraiker.photography><http://kraiker.photography> Blog: NextChapter.Kraiker.ca <http://Nextchapter.kraiker.ca> 1982 Vanagon L Westy 1.9TD
