Neil,

I'm not sure why, but your original split on the back side. Normally the hole in the barrel is just slightly bigger than the end of the cable. The bolt holds the barrel to the arm as well as tightening the cable into the barrel. Tightening it too much will cause them to split which then pushes the accelerator cable out the side of the barrel.

Hi all.

This is for a 1981 Westy. I don't see this detail shown in Bentley.....

Was the original barrel clamp at forward end of the accelerator cable designed with splayed legs? If someone drilled the hole to make it larger, can't imagine why.....

Just trying to figure out why the part failed like it did. The bolt just kept turning and the end splayed out further and further. Hard to believe the cable stayed in place all these years!
